The initial official tribute to AC/DC frontman Bon Scott in his Scottish hometown of Kirriemuir was unveiled on May 6, 2006, during the inaugural Bonfest tribute festival. The memorial consisted of an engraved Caithness stone slab and plaque placed at Cumberland Close. Inset into the pavement alongside tributes to other notable local figures like Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie, the stone slab commemorates Scott's childhood roots in the town before his family emigrated to Australia in 1952.

A decade later, local community group DD8 Music spearheaded a global crowdfunding campaign to create a more prominent permanent tribute. Sculpted by British artist John McKenna, the life-sized bronze statue depicts Bon Scott in full performance pose, holding a microphone in one hand and bagpipes under the other. Unveiled on April 30, 2016, during the 10th anniversary of Bonfest by former AC/DC bassist Mark Evans, the statue stands at Bellies Brae car park in Kirriemuir as a major pilgrimage site for fans worldwide.
