This Liverpool pub was just around the corner from the street where Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) grew up.

When Ringo released his first solo album after the Beatles break up, a photo of the Empress was used for the album cover. The album Sentimental Journey was released on the 27th of March 1970 and featured his versions of old "classics" which he said reminded him of the singalongs every night round the piano in the Empress.

The pub is today marked with a sign telling it's story, there are also separate signs in tribute to John and Paul and George and Ringo, and it is of course very popular with fans of both Ringo Starr and the Beatles.
