On Tuesday December 4, 1956 the Million Dollar Quartet, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash, recorded a jam session at the Sun Record Studios in Memphis Tennessee.

The recordings were later released as an album and the name of both the album and the gathering of musicians was thought up.
