Brian Jones, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards moved into this flat in Edith Grove late summer 1962 and shared it throughout 1962 and 1963. Also sharing the flat was James Phelge, who would later become a successful photographer.
Phelge's name is used in some of the bands writing credits and he would also later write a book on the Rolling Stones called Phelge's Stones, describing the very young Stones.
Brian and Keith would spend days playing guitar while listening to blues recods and Jones taught Jagger how to play the harmonica in this flat.
The flat was far from the luxury the Stones would experience later in their career, it was famously squalid with rising damp and peeling wallpaper. Keith’s mother Doris would visit weekly to take away mounds of dirty clothes to wash for them.
